Project Description
What is it about?
“HOPE” is a project about the idea that we, as humans, always have the power to make new decisions and take control of the direction of our lives.
3D Team
The 3D department consisted of Thomas Junger, who initiated and directed
the project, Andreas Eder, who was responsible for shot production and simulation
effects, and Raphaela Mayr, who was producing shots and focused on Houdini
simulations as well.
Audio Team
The Audio Department consisted of three individuals. Raphael Hendlmayr was
responsible for composition, production and post-production. Thomas Kinast worked in
composition as well and recorded the guitar. Melanie Deuflhart wrote and sung the lyrics
and composed the vocal melody.
The multimedia music video was created in collaboration between the animation and audio departments at FH Salzburg, focusing on the inner emotional journey of the main character. The goal was to create visually engaging imagery which supports the music and conveys a clear, relatable message.
The story begins in a state of loneliness, overwhelm, and lack of motivation, and gradually shifts towards a more positive outlook, exploring themes such as joy, movement, and human connection.
The visual style is emotional and abstract, inspired by the aesthetic of the series Severance, and uses effects and simulations, including elements such as sports and nature, to contrast different mental states and highlight their diversity and complexity.
The project was realized using a VFX-focused workflow with tools such as Houdini, Maya, Unreal Engine, Substance Painter, DaVinci Resolve, and Marvelous Designer. It features complex simulations, a digital character created with MetaHuman, and animations based on motion capture data.
At the core, the project should be a reminder that even in moments of stagnation or loneliness, we often have more control about our situation than we might realize. We are always capable of making changes, no matter how big or small, that can shape our life in meaningful ways. By embracing these new experiences, being open to the world, and allowing ourselves to connect with others, it becomes possible to reshape one’s own perspective and rediscover a sense of purpose and well-being.
