How to Die ASAP

Your time is running...

How to Die ASAP is a humorous 2D top-down adventure game that combines exploration, puzzle-solving. Players take on the role of Bob, an ordinary man who suddenly discovers that his entire reality may be nothing more than a simulation created by an alien species known as the Schnorbelians.
The story begins when Bob receives a mysterious letter from his friend Anton. In the letter, Anton reveals a shocking truth:
humanity has been trapped inside an artificial simulation controlled by the Schnorbelians.
He explains that he has finally found a way to escape. However, there is only one method of leaving the simulation behind, Bob must terminate it by dying. Before Anton can reveal anything more, the letter ends with a warning: the Schnorbelians are watching, and Bob has only five minutes before his memories are inspected and potentially erased. With time running out, Bob must search his surroundings for a way to escape. What initially sounds simple quickly turns into a strange and unpredictable challenge. The game takes place inside Bob’s home, where players can freely explore rooms, collect objects, and experiment with different interactions. Many items can be picked up and stored in an inventory, allowing players to combine information and discover creative solutions.
A central gameplay mechanic is the All-Seeing Eye, a surveillance system used by the Schnorbelians to monitor Bob's actions. Throughout the game, the Eye constantly watches the player and reacts to suspicious behavior. If Bob attracts too much attention while attempting to escape the simulation, the Schnorbelians become aware of his intentions and intervene, causing the player to fail. This mechanic adds tension and urgency to the gameplay while reinforcing the game's narrative theme of living under constant observation.
The player controls Bob using the WASD keys and interacts with objects by pressing E. Collected items are stored in an inventory that can be opened with the I key. Exploration and experimentation are encouraged, as many objects have unexpected uses and can contribute to different escape scenarios. Players must carefully investigate their environment and think creatively in order to uncover all possible solutions.
One of the game's most important features is its variety of endings. There is not just one way to escape the simulation; instead, players can discover multiple unique outcomes depending on the choices they make and the objects they use. This encourages replayability and rewards players who enjoy experimenting with different approaches.
Visually, the game is presented in a colorful pixel-art style that contrasts with its unusual premise. While the narrative revolves around escaping reality through death, the overall tone remains lighthearted and comedic. The exaggerated situations, quirky interactions, and absurd solutions create a playful atmosphere that keeps the experience entertaining.
The development of How to Die ASAP focused on creating a complete and polished gameplay experience within a limited production timeframe. Special attention was given to implementing interactive objects, an inventory system, multiple endings, and the All-Seeing Eye mechanic. Together, these systems create a short but memorable adventure that combines humor, mystery, and exploration.
