Fun Time Out

About

Fun Time Out is an animation based on the Backrooms lore. It’s a journey into an alternate reality, exploring the concept of liminal spaces. My goal was to create a realistic and immersive walk-through using a found-footage film technique (first-person camera), navigating through surreal, strange — yet oddly familiar — environments. I aimed to evoke a sense of unease by blurring the line between fiction and potential reality. My focus was on worldbuilding, camera tracking, and the use of narrative and visual techniques for evoking specific emotions and curiosity. Workflow: After drawing the storyboard, I blocked out the landscapes using Unreal Engine 5 and created the POV shot sequence with the UE5 Sequencer afterwards. The next steps were set dressing (UE5), modeling (Autodesk Maya), texturing (UE5), and finally polishing the environments and camera sequences. In post-production, the shots were assembled in After Effects and the VHS effect and glitches were added using Clipchamp.
