DocDoc: Improving Doctor - Patient Conversations
In collaboration with the Institut für gesundheitliche Prävention (IfGP) our project explored how technology can support health literacy and improve doctor-patient communication. Research indicates that individuals in Austria struggle with effectively preparing for medical consultations, and engaging in informed health-related discussions.
To address this problem space, we first examined existing tools and resources designed to improve doctor-patient conversations. Using these resources as a foundation for our content, we applied a user-centered design approach to develop the prototype app DocDoc. The app's primary goal is to helps users prepare for and participate in medical appointments more effectively. DocDoc enables users to: structure and document symptoms before a doctor's appointment, prepare and organize relevant questions for their doctor, and take notes and track information during an appointment.
DocDoc was then evaluated through a usability study with participants. We implemented a mixed-methods approach, including: task-based testing, role-playing scenarios and qualitative interviews. From this testing we identified key usability improvements, areas for refinements and provided insights into the market potential and value of such an app.
