HIRAETH (welsh, here-eyeth)
“Longing for a home which maybe never was yours to begin with. Anostalgia for a place to which we cannot return. It is now, or always hasbeen beyond this current plane of existence. It is the echo of all lostmemories and places of our soul’s past and our current grief for them. It’s aching and it’s beauty. It is in the wind, the rocks and the rain. It isnowhere and everywhere. It is a feeling that consumes you fully andwon’t ever let you go.”
The astronaut, lonely and lost in a deserted world, symbolizes the feeling of isolation that we all experience at times. The word HIRAETH not only describes the feeling of longing for a home, a place that no longer exists, but also the loneliness associated with it.
The shortfilm is based on the same named photo series HIRAETH by Jenny Egger.
