Intro

Everyone loves Dinosaurs, so imagine you could be one or rather play as one. Two Dino Friends against the world fighting in a final battel until suddenly thing change…?

Description

Dino Duell is a local multiplayer game. The player chooses between three skins – two dinosaurs and one dinosaurs’ egg. Once the game is started you move around a 2d top-down world in which four enemies wait to be defeated. To increase the difficulty those enemies, emit fireballs. When an enemy is fallen it leaves behind one of four magic items which gets you an advantage in the final boss battel. After that you get teleported into the arena where you should face of the final boss but in the middle of this arena hovers just a mysterious helmet. You just know that your only objective is to kill the final boss. So your only option is to take it and see what happens.

Controls

Dino 1: moves with WASD and attacks with Space. Dino 2: moves with the Numpad arrow keys and attacks with Enter. Tipp: When you explore your surrounding you two should stay together because otherwise you will lose your speed!

Items

You will need some equipment to take down the final boss. Defeat the four enemies to unlock these items but which item is dropped is totally random. For combat you can improve your health or level up your attack damage. To make the game more fun some potions can either increase your speed or shrink the players to be really tiny. But be quick because only one of you can get each item.

Map

The game is split into two sections. First, you can sprint around the island in search of enemies, skilfully dodging and weaving through fiery obstacles to ensure your safety and prevent any reset, as you would bring down your fried with you. After the teleporter is powered up you both enter the arena where the final boss awaits. This arena is surrounded by lava, so the only option is battle.

Motivation

The primary motivation behind my project was to implement game mechanics that I personally enjoy playing. One such mechanic is the freedom to explore a confined area, gather items, and conquer enemies. I wanted to translate these elements into a smaller-scale implementation to fit the briefing of the MMP1. I chose pixel art because I really like this art style.
