Leona's Little Blue is a movie about Lena who suffers from panic disorder and severe ptsd as a result of molest and abuse, the whole scenario is her trying to invent coping mechanisms through collecting butterflies ( the brain registers an overwhelming trauma, then it can essentially block that memory in a process called dissociation -- or detachment from reality.)
Idea
The movie aims at portraying the immense pain humans inflict upon each other and the severe consequences it brings. It is open to interpretation, but one way of understanding is a girl living in her head trying to block out a painful memory through escapism and dissociation, stuck in endlessly repeating cycle of trying to forget and inevitably remembering.
