Welcome dear mini-game friends to Monstrous Mini Games!

Monstrous Mini Games is a collection of web-based multiplayer party games played in the browser. All that is needed is one smartphone per player and additionally at least one laptop, computer or tablet. The players own smartphone is used to control the game characters and the additional screen shows the game board. Several smartphone sensors such as the microphone and accelerometer, as well as the camera, are integrated into the gameplay. The games also work regardless of location, so it doesn't matter whether the players play together in front of a screen or online on separate screens. Monstrous Mini Games consists of a total of three games, which can be played with up to four friends. Mini-games In the game "The Great Monster Escape" you take on the role of a monster that is being chased by a giant mosquito. The goal is to escape to safety in one piece and faster than the other players. But be careful, obstacles block the way and your fellow players could also put obstacles in your way! 1 sheep, 2 sheep, 3 sheep, ... Or was it 4 sheep? In "Sheep Thief" your estimation skills are in demand! Move around the sheep pasture and exchange the sheep for dummies to outsmart your fellow players. The player who has the best estimate of the number of sheep at the end is the winner. In "Snapshot Marathon" go on a safari in your surroundings and take the best photo for a random term. Whether you were able to convince your fellow players is decided by voting. The player with the most points wins. Idea This web app was developed during the Multimedia-Technology Masters, which was characterized by social distancing and there was social interaction only via video call. Inspired by well-known multiplayer games such as Among Us and Jackbox Games, this project aimed to create a way to play party games together despite the pandemic. It was important to make the use as simple as possible. No additional software as well as no screen transmission should be necessary for the gaming experience. To make the games more interesting, it was decided to use the smartphone as a controller. Unlike standard controllers, smartphones have various sensors built into them, which were used to make the game controls more unique. Team At its core, the team consisted of four multimedia technology students with a focus on web development, who provided the basic idea for the concept and were responsible for the technical implementation. They were supported in the implementation of the project by other Multimedia Art and Multimedia Technology students in the areas of design, conception, game design and audio. Technology Stack The frontend was developed with React, TypeScript and the game framework Phaser. The backend was implemented with Node.js and TypeScript. The communication between the individual devices is done via sockets.
